Education

I have a B.A. in English with a minor in Psychology from the University of Colorado. I also have a M.Ed. in curriculum development. I have taken and taught the Dale Carnegie Human Relations course several times.

Experience

My teaching career has spanned nearly 20 years, ranging from Headstart to Adult Education with most of my career in secondary English and History positions. I have worked in rural areas, suburbs and the inner city with populations from ESL to SpEd to Honors and AP. I have taken professional development courses in differentiation, 21st Century Skills, Balanced Assessment Systems and several workshops on teaching the gifted learner. I have worked in test prep for the PARCC, ACT, SAT, and AP. While it has been some time, I took and scored in the top 10% on the LSAT and was accepted to several law schools, but I decided that teaching and being present for my children was more important. I love teaching. I have done other things including marketing, proposal writing and human resources, but I always find my way back to the classroom. Teaching is truly my passion and where I belong. I want to tutor because that will give me the ability to work with kids I wouldn't normally see on a personal level to individualize instruction, something I can't always do with 200 students on my caseload.
